massage

I have been teaching so much yoga lately and practicing so much that my body is just tired and sore.  I have been CRAVING a massage.

My friend K came to my rescue.  She had a gift certificate for a massage that she wasn't going to use.  Seriously?!  I jumped at the opportunity.

The gift certificate was for Planet Beach which is just a weird place.  I've been there before to do the whole spray tan thing but I hadn't used any other of the funky things there.

I picked the Aqua Massage.  And, I panicked when I saw the thing!

You've seen them in airports and malls, right?

My main concern was that I have a little problem with claustrophobia.  Logically I know it is ridiculous and my yoga breathing really helps...but there are times that I feel like my heart will leap out of my chest or just flat out quit.  I'm turning into my father.  I got through it imagining that it was my friend K in the pod and listening to her GIGGLE!

So, you climb into the tube thing and you have a remote that controls pressure and has a hold button if you find a spot you like.  Then the lid slowly closes...ugh.  Then it pulses water "over" you.  I say "over" because you don't actually get wet.

As far as the actual massage goes, it lasted twenty minutes and by the end I was actually calm.  I thought it put a little too much pressure on the delicate cervical spine and not enough pressure anywhere else.  It was especially nice on the legs.  I used the hold button on my aching calves for a long time.  But, it doesn't really get to that tension between the shoulder blades which is my ouch spot.

I don't mean to seem ungrateful for the generous gift, but in this girl's humble opinion, nothing beats a hands on massage.  Plus, it seems like more of a treat.

My body is now really aching for a massage...

PS--my friend got the gift certificate through her church.  there was a sermon about taking care of yourself and it really resonated with one of the attendees so she came back with gift certificates for everyone.  what a wonderful thing to do for someone...a whole lotta someones!

work spaces

I have a slight obsession with work spaces.  I love looking at pictures of other (creative) people's spaces.  They are so organized and inspiring.  This month's House Beautiful featured pictures of designers and other creative people's desks.  The designers' desks were so organized and just so.  There was a picture of Audrey Niffenegger's (Time Traveler's Wife) desk and it was just piled with papers and clutter and coffee cups.  That is more what my space looks like!

The above space is Jennifer's of Made by Girl newly re-done office.  I love the wallpaper!  And, to be fair, the before of her workspace was beautiful too:

Nicole of Making it Lovely is also redoing her workspace.  Below:

Oh, that mirror!  Swoon!  I think what I love about these spaces is that they are so girly and bright!  I find I have to temper that girlyness for the wonderful husband.  Our house is already very feminine...it has a lot of arched doorways that give it such a softness that I try to "man" it up.

And, Tea for Joy does a Wednesday Workspace post that I always look forward to:

new books

Hastings here has such a great deal:  buy two used books and get one for $1!

Here is what I got:

I liked the Time Traveller's Wife, however, I thought it wasn't a good title.  I never felt the story was actually about the wife.  I started this book last night and if I didn't have work this morning, I probably would have read the whole thing last night!  Can't wait to read more.

I have read Empire Falls and Bridge of Sighs by Russo.  I liked them both.  The endings are a bit odd, but the stories and the details and the writing are really good.  The wonderful husband promptly took this one and started reading...

Because sometimes you just need some brain candy.  I'm embarrassed that I read stuff like this, but it is fun to read something so trivial and so fast.  And, I liked the Devil Wears Prada.  Plus, reading something like this has to be better than watching trashy tv...

This book is next on my list.  I can't find it anywhere so I will probably have to order it:

impromptu date night

The wonderful husband and I have a loosely acknowledged tradition lately:  Tuesday movie night.  We haven't had Tuesday Movie Night in a month because I have been taking the design class.  And, honestly, as fun as the design class was, I missed my one night a week with the wonderful husband so I decided to skip the second series.  I'll catch it next spring.

Last night we brought back TMN with an unexpected bang.  We went to the early show of Shutter Island.  Great movie by the way!  The movie got out at 9:00 PM and we decided to grab some dinner.

Now, if you are at all familiar with sleepy little Helena, Montana, you know that even on a Saturday night it is difficult to find somewhere to eat at 9:00 PM.  We went to On Broadway and when we walked in the door and asked for a table, I swear I could see everyone working there sigh.

They graciously sat us and it was just a few minutes and we were the only ones there.

We had a great meal.  A couple glasses of wine.  We talked about our house, our work, our plan.  And it was simply wonderful.  It wasn't planned.  There were no other people.  I love it when things work out like that.  And, I'm glad we took the time to do it.

I love TMN!
